Across Los Angeles County, young people have the opportunity to become the next generation of environmental stewards. AWI’s proposal to help expand those opportunities, Growing Stewards LA, is now featured in the LA2050 Ideas Hub.
The Ideas Hub highlights organizations and ideas working toward a stronger, more connected future for Los Angeles. We’re honored to have the opportunity to share our vision alongside so many inspiring community initiatives.
A Vision for Environmental Stewardship
Growing Stewards LA reflects AWI’s commitment to connecting children, youth, and families with nature through hands-on learning, environmental stewardship, and service. The proposal builds on the collaborative relationships AWI has developed with partners, including Islah LA, to expand opportunities for participants to restore natural spaces, strengthen their relationship with the land, and develop the knowledge and confidence to become lifelong environmental stewards.

Building on Existing Community Partnerships
While this proposal is currently under consideration for funding, the vision behind Growing Stewards LA reflects the direction AWI continues to pursue through its existing programs and community partnerships. We believe that meaningful environmental education happens when people not only learn about nature but also care for it.
